TIGERETTES WIN THE BATTLE OF THE CATS
The TFFC Tigerettes opened their 2010 campaign with a fine 3-0 win over the Pacific Palms Pantherettes at Tuncurry on Saturday. With less than ideal preseason preparation and perhaps still nursing a World Masters Games hangover the Tigerettes were a little slow to find their rhythm against the Pantherettes but soon it was only good goalkeeping and some less than accurate shooting that was keeping the Pantherettes in the hunt. Relentless pressure eventually told as the irrepressible Gen Moran burst onto a through ball and finished well, clattering the poor Palms keeper in the process. On resumption of play the Tigerettes were straight back into the attack with young guns Ali Redman, Tegan Gray and Jodie Eacott inspiring their slightly older team-mates to some fine controlled football. Jodie Arthurson had a few chances saved before she too collided with the Palms keeper, this time though both players having to be substituted, with Arthurson unable to return. The Tigerettes backline of Michelle Gray, Eacott, Hella Hallot and Sarah Newman snuffed out most of what the Pantherettes had in the way of attack, leaving Sharon Brown plenty of room to smash a sensational second goal for the Tigerettes from the top of the box early in the second half. Tegan Gray rounded out the scoring for the Tigerettes with a well deserved goal to see the final score TFFC Tigerettes 3, Pacific Palms Pantherettes 0. Karen Crowther, Kim Amato and Rachel Marshdale played well on their return to football, and both Jan Read and Carlene Robertson had good games up front. Janelle Curtis was as safe as ever in goals, and Sharon Brown was awarded players player.
